She made her Hollywood debut as a child artist in the 1982 comedy film ‘Lookin’ to Get Out.’ Following this, she made her Hollywood debut as an adult in the 1993 science fiction film ‘Cyborg 2.’ Her first major film was titled ‘Hackers’ which was released in 1995 and where she played the lead role. She rose to fame with the 1999 psychological drama film ‘Girl, Interrupted,’ for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She became Hollywood’s leading actress with the ‘Lara Croft’ blockbuster films. Following this, she went on to appear in films like ‘Wanted,’ ‘Salt,’ ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith,’ ‘The Tourist,’ and ‘Changeling,’ among several others. Apart from acting, she promotes causes like women’s rights, education, and conservation for which she received a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
